TCNJ Ethics

The College of New Jersey (the “College”) is committed to the highest ethical standards and compliance with applicable law regarding ethics. It is essential that College faculty and staff (collectively, “College Employees”), in their roles as public officials and employees, conduct themselves in such a manner that fosters the respect, trust and confidence of the public. College Employees must, therefore, avoid conduct that is, or appears to be, a violation of the public trust.

In accordance with applicable New Jersey law, the College, as an agency of the state, has appointed an Ethics Liaison Officer (“ELO”). The ELO notifies College Employees of State ethics laws, rules and executive orders, distributes to College Employees required forms and other documents, assists College Employees in completing necessary filings, facilitates mandatory training of College Employees, serves as the College’s official liaison to the State Ethics Commission, and works to ensure compliance with ethics requirements. Those ethics requirements include: the New Jersey Conflicts of Interest Law (the “Conflicts Law”), executive orders issued by the Governor of New Jersey (the “Executive Orders”), the practices and procedures of the State Ethics Commission (the “Rules”), and the Uniform Ethics Code (“State Ethics Code”). You can access each of these documents from this Website.

The State Ethics Commission (formerly known as the Executive Commission on Ethical Standards) is the state body charged with administering and enforcing the Conflicts Law. The website for the State Ethics Commission is also accessible from this Web site.

College Employees who have questions about ethics requirements or who need help with completing required forms should contact the ELO. Anyone who becomes aware of a violation of ethics requirements by a College Employee is encouraged to report it to the ELO. Confidential Website and toll-free telephone (1-888-366-6025) reporting services are also offered through EthicsPoint, a third party operator engaged by the College.
